Son of Former John Calipari Player Transferring to St. John's

Jordan Dingle is headed to play for a coach with Kentucky ties...it's just not John Calipari.

Kentucky basketball is still without an addition via the transfer portal, as names continue to fly off the board.

The window is closed, but more and more moves will be made, with the end of May being a particularly important time as teams like UK try and structure their rosters for the 2023-24 season.

Another name came off the board on Friday, though Kentucky never had reported interest. CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported that Penn guard Jordan Dingle is transferring to play for Rick Pitino and St. John's:

The 6-foot-3 junior averaged 23.4 points per game last season and was the second-leading scorer in college basketball, making him a significant addition to portal free agency. Dingle is the son of Dana Dingle, who played for UMass in 1996, when a certain John Calipari was the head coach of the Minutemen.

There never appeared to be any real link between the two, but the connection to Calipari and Kentucky wasn't something to be totally ignored. Instead, he's now going to play for a former Kentucky coach in Pitino.

Dingle played in 79 games for Penn, averaging 19.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG and 2.3 APG. He's a 34.4-percent 3-point shooter and has shot 79.2 percent from the free-throw line. His name was in the NBA draft waters, but he'll now stay close to his former school and head to Queens to play in the Big East.
