Former Texas Commit With Kentucky Interest Ron Holland Joining G League Ignite

The 5-star and former hometown Longhorn commit will not be playing college basketball.

The top player left in the 2023 recruiting class has made up his mind once again.

On Wednesday, multiple reports revealed that 5-star forward Ron Holland is headed to the G League, joining Ignite. The decision comes following the Duncanville, Texas native's decommitment from Texas at the end of April.

Holland is the No. 3 player in the class, per the On3 Consensus. Kentucky was in the initial running for Holland, as the Wildcats made his top five schools before eventually being cut. He originally chose the Longhorns over UK, Arkansas, UCLA and the G League.

Holland took an official visit to Lexington on June 13, 2022. He was offered soon after, but Kentucky never felt like a frontrunner and was one of its only misses in the 2023 recruiting cycle that saw Calipari reel in four 5-stars and a homegrown 4-star. When his decommitment from Texas was announced, the Cats were immediately thrown out as a potential suitor by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Landing the 6-foot-8, 195-pounder never seemed like a real possibility for Kentucky this go-round, but given the uncertainty of the 2023-24 roster, a player of his caliber would've been welcomed with all the open arms available in the Bluegrass.

Kentucky awaits the decisions of Oscar Tshiebwe, Chris Livingston and Antonio Reeves, all of whom have until 11:59 p.m. EST to make a decision on whether or not they want to keep their name in the NBA draft, which is set to take place on June 22.
