Mark Pope's introductory press conference is over, and now Kentucky's new head basketball coach is trying to put together a competitive roster for the 2024-25 season.

Knowing that most of Kentucky's recruiting class is gone and a lot of the players from last year's roster Coach Pope is going to have to do most of his work in the portal.

One thing that will be good is knowing that if Coach Pope does use the transfer portal to put together next season's roster, it will be an older team, which will help in March.

Coach Pope has a certain type of basketball he likes to play, and it has to do with every player on the floor being able to shoot and pass.

That is why Coach Pope will need to find some talented forwards who can do these two things, and he might have just found one in the transfer portal.

It was reported that Coach Pope has reached out to TCU transfer JaKobe Coles. Last season for the Horned Frogs, Coles averaged ten points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Coles shot 42.2% from three on the season in 64 attempts, making him the perfect deep threat Coach Pope is looking for at the stretch forward position.

Coles is only 6'8 215 pounds, but he plays physically and, on tape, is a solid defender.

Other schools like Auburn and Mississippi State have interest in Coles, but he would be an excellent veteran addition to Coach Pope's first Kentucky team.
