The Kentucky Wildcats will likely lose a good portion of last season's roster to the NBA Draft, transfer portal, and running out of eligibility, meaning Coach John Calipari will be busy in the portal.

We have heard that Coach Calipari has reached out to a few players in the portal, one guard and a center, but now he has reached out to a second guard who was a star in the SEC a season ago.

Meechie Johnson was South Carolina's leading scorer last season, averaging 14.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 39.9% from three and 78.8% from the free-throw line.

When the Wildcats headed to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks, Johnson scored 14 points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished four assists en route to a 79-62 blowout win for the Gamecocks.

During the 2022-23 season, Johnson and the Gamecocks came to Rupp Arena, where he scored a whopping 26 points while going 6-10 from three. South Carolina was able to take down Kentucky 71-68.

Assuming Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard are both gone, you will need a veteran guard to come in and make plays, which is why Johnson will be a perfect fit for this team.

He has proven he can score in the SEC, which is something Coach Calipari will be looking for during his portal search. A lot of times, when adding players via the portal, they come from lower levels of college hoops, but adding an experienced player like Johnson could make the Wildcats a lot better next season.
