LOUISVILLE, Ky. - While the Louisville men's basketball program is still in the process of putting together their non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2023-24 season, their slate of games for the season after is already starting to come together.
The Cardinals are set to take part in the 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis, according to CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein. They will be accompanied by Arizona, Creighton, Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Oklahoma and West Virginia.
There is no timetable for an official announcement of the event, according to Rothstein, and matchups have yet to be determined.
Taking place at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, the Battle 4 Atlantis is one of the top multi-team events in all of college basketball. The eight-team tournament has a format identical to that of the Maui Invitational, sporting a winner's bracket and consolation bracket, with each team playing three games. In the 11-year history of the Battle 4 Atlantis, Louisville has participated twice, falling in the championship game in both 2012 and 2016.
The Cardinals are a combined 24-20 against the 2024, with winning records against three of the programs. Louisville holds a 9-4 record over West Virginia, a 3-2 mark against Arizona and a 2-0 advantage over Davidson. They trail their all-time series against Indiana at 9-11, are 1-2 against Creighton, lost their only matchup against Gonzaga, and have never played Oklahoma.
Louisville will be looking for a massive rebound in their second year under head coach Kenny Payne. During his first season at the helm, the Cardinals went just 4-28 overall and 2-18 in ACC play, setting a new program record for most losses in a single season.
