LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The home of the Louisville football program officially has a new name.

On Monday, the University of Louisville announced that they has signed a deal with L&N Federal Credit Union for the naming rights to Cardinal Stadium. It will now be known as L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.

"I can proudly say that a great partner of the University of Louisville athletic department has decided to name our football stadium," athletic director Josh Heird said at the Angel's Envy Bourbon Club of L&N Stadium.

The agreement between UofL and L&N is worth $41.3 million over 20 years, and is commencing in the current fiscal year. Previously known as Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, Louisville terminated their naming rights deal with Papa John's in the summer of 2018 after their founder, John Schnatter, used a racial slur on a company conference call.

"We are thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to partner with the University of Louisville," L&N's CEO/President Chris Brown said in a statement. "We are proud to have the L&N name on the stadium as a visible sign of our commitment to the Louisville community and the University.

"L&N has been a long-standing partner with the University and, ironically, the credit union had its start on the same site as the stadium in 1954. This long-term commitment strengthens our relationship into the future. We are aligned with Josh Heird's vision and it's our honor to be associated with a great program."

Following the announcing of the deal, Heird and L&N executive vice president Tim Root took time to meet with the media. They discussed the deal itself, the discussions that went on behind the scene, and more.
