Report: Louisville Showing Interest in North Texas Transfer Tylor Perry

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's basketball program is continuing to weigh their options when it comes to players in the transfer portal, and their latest target is a big one.
The Cardinals are one of several Power Five schools that have shown interest in former North Texas guard Tylor Perry since he entered the portal on Monday, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. Perry also declared for NBA Draft while maintaining his collegiate eligibility, and has one season of eligibility remaining.
The 5-foot-11, 182-pound shooting guard started all 36 games, and was the driving force behind arguably the most successful season in Mean Green history. He took home Conference-USA Player of the Year honors after averaging a team-best 17.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while also shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 41.3 percent on three-point attempts, the latter of which was good for 18th in Division I.
North Texas finished the 2022-23 season with a 31-7 mark for the most wins in school history, while also capturing the 2023 NIT championship. Perry averaged 20.6 points and 4.8 rebounds during their NIT run, earning the honor of 2023 NIT Most Outstanding Player.
The Fort Coffee, Okla. native spent his first two years in college in the JUCO ranks, playing for Coffeyville C.C. and leading them to an NJCAA Championship in 2021 as a sophomore. In his first season with North Texas during the 2021-22 season as junior, he averaged 13.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 31 games and a single start.
Louisville has been busy this offseason when it comes to reaching out to transfer portal targets. As of this writing, they have publicly contacted nine players in the portal, mostly guards.

Since the end of their season, where they went just 4-28 under first year head coach Kenny Payne, roster management has been in full swing for the Cardinals. On top of losing El Ellis to the NBA Draft, Louisville has seen six players enter the transfer portal: Kamari Lands, Devin Ree, Fabio Basili, Sydney Curry, Roosevelt Wheeler and Jae'Lyn Withers.
Conversely, Payne and his staff have been hard at work behind the scenes attempting to bring in fresh talent for next season. Last month, the Cardinals landed former Illinois guard Skyy Clark, five-star 2023 center Dennis Evans and five-star 2023 reclass wing Trentyn Flowers. Louisville is also set to welcome top-70 wings Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr., plus JUCO guard Koron Davis as part of their 2023 signing class.
