LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 2022-23 season for the Louisville's men's basketball program has been over for just two days, but head coach Kenny Payne is already hard at work on the roster management front for next year.

The Cardinals are the latest to reach out to VMI transfer Sean Conway, according to Stockrisers' Jake Weingarten. Since entering the portal as a graduate transfer this past Monday, Conway has also heard from Iowa State, Rhode Island, Loyola Chicago and others.

The Keydets might have gone 7-25 this past season, but it was not due to the efforts of Conway. In 29 total games and 28 starts, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound shooting guard was VMI's second-leading scorer at 12.1 points per game. He made a team-high 62 three-pointers, shooting 37.8 percent on three-point attempts and 41.8 percent from the field, while also averaging 4.9 rebounds per game.

Flipping the roster will be an important task this offseason for the Cardinals after going 4-28 this season, but acquiring players like Conway for quality guard depth will be priority No. 1 for Payne. Louisville had just three true scholarship guards on the roster for the 2022-23 season, and the only one who saw regular playing time was El Ellis, who led the team in scoring and minutes at 17.7 points and 35.9 minutes per game.

Despite going through senior day activities, Ellis has the option to utilize his COVID waiver year return to Louisville next season, but has yet to announced his intentions. The only other two guards on the roster - Fabio Basili and Hercy Miller - averaged a combined 15.7 minutes and 3.4 points per game.
