LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's basketball program has officially landed their first commitment that doesn't have prior ties to new head coach Pat Kelsey.

Former James Madison guard/forward Terrance Edwards Jr., who was the 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year, has committed to the Cardinals according to The Field of 68's Jeff Goodman.

Edwards is the third transfer to commit to Louisville so far this offseason, following guard Reyne Smith and center James Scott. Both Smith and Scott are transferring in from Charleston, where Kelsey had been the head coach for the last three seasons before accepting the Cardinals' head coaching position late last month.

The 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing is a massive pickup for Louisville. Starting all 36 games for JMU, he averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for the Dukes. He also shot 42.7 percent from the field, 34.3 percent on three-point attempts and 81.0 percent from the free throw line.

Edwards played a critical role in James Madison going 32-4 this season - their most wins in school history. This included winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and clinching a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. JMU pulled off an opening round upset over No. 5 Wisconsin before falling to fourth-seeded Duke in the Round of 32.

The Atlanta native was also tabbed as the Sun Belt's Sixth Man of the Year during his redshirt sophomore year last season. In 117 career games and 71 starts with James Madison, Edwards has totaled 1,414 points, 525 rebounds, 278 assists and 111 steals.

Louisville's trio of portal commitments will be far from their last transfer additions this offseason. Following the dismissal of second-year head coach Kenny Payne back on Mar. 13, the Cardinals' roster began to flip immediately.

As of Apr. 3, 11 Louisville players have entered the portal following the end of their 2023-24 season, leaving the Cardinals with zero returning scholarship players. With two more graduating, the only player currently in line to return is walk-on guard Hercy Miller. UofL also has no committed high school recruits in their Class of 2024.
