Watch: Louisville HC Jeff Walz Previews NCAA Tournament Opener vs. Middle Tennessee

The Cardinals face the Blue Raiders this Friday in Baton Rouge, La.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - March Madness is officially here.

On Sunday, the Louisville women's basketball program finally learned their draw for the NCAA Tournament, earning a No. 6 seed for the Big Dance. The Cardinals' NCAA Tournament opener has them traveling down to Baton Rouge, La., where a matchup with 11th-seeded Middle Tennessee is waiting for them.

"They're very talented ... When you look at the minutes played for their starting five in the (C-USA) Championship Game, I think it was 40 minutes, 40, 40. 39 and 37, and then one player played three off the bench. That's it," head coach Jeff Walz said. "And it's not like they're playing a 2-3 zone, they're not walking the ball up the floor. They're pushing in transition, they're attacking, they're playing hard."

Louisville is very familiar with how good Middle Tennessee is. Last season, the Cardinals traveled to Murfreesboro to face the Blue Raiders, and left down having been dealt a 67-49 blowout loss.

"They kicked our ass," Walz said. "I mean, it was plain and simple. We did not play well, we were not playing well at that time, and they played with urgency."

Prior to their matchup with the Blue Raiders, Walz took time to meet with the media. He discussed the upcoming matchup against Middle Tennessee, addressed the rumors regarding the vacant Kentucky job, and more.
