Louisville RB Jawhar Jordan, CB Jarvis Brownlee Questionable vs. Duke
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As if losing one of their starting offensive lineman for the season wasn't bad enough, the Louisville football program might be short two of their best players when they face Duke this weekend.
Running back Jawhar Jordan and cornerback Jarvis Brownlee are both questionable to play against the Blue Devils, head coach Jeff Brohm announced Monday. Jordan is dealing with hamstring injury, while Brownlee is dealing with a foot injury.
"Jawhar, we want to get him healthy," Brohm said. "He had a hamstring issue last week, we'll see where that goes. Jarvis had a foot issue that is flaring up on a him little bit. We got to try to get him back to game feel. I'm hopeful that we can this week, but we'll see as this week progresses."
Jordan entered Louisville's Oct. 14 game at Pitt with a nagging hamstring issue, but played in the first series of the matchup. After getting two carries for eight yards, but did not play for the remainder of game. Brownlee did not log any stats in the 38-21 loss against the Panthers before exiting the game in the second quarter.
Jordan did not participate in practice during in Louisville's bye week, but did take part in rehab efforts on the sideline, with Brohm going as far to saw he had some "strong rehab work." They will continue to monitor the progress of both him and Brownlee as the week progresses.
"With (Jordan), as far as football practice, no he did not practice last week, but he did some strong rehab work on the side of the field," Brohm said. "That continued yesterday, and then we'll gauge where he's at this week. I'm always hopeful that we can get him back, but until I see him practice football in the normal setting, I wouldn't be able to tell you that."
Jordan has established himself as one of the most explosive and exciting running backs in college football. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound all-purpose back has rushed for 661 yards and eight touchdowns, as well as caught 10 passes for 174 yards and a score. His rushing total comes in at No. 21 nationally, while his 835 yards from scrimmage is good for 20th in the FBS.
As for Brownlee, he has been a crucial component to Louisville's secondary. In seven starts, the 6-foot, 190-pound corner is tied for second on the team in pass breakups with four, and has also collected 20 tackles, one for loss and a fumble recovery.
In case Jordan is a no-go against the Blue Devils, expect Brohm to split carries between Isaac Guerendo and Maurice Turner, who have combined for 357 yards and four touchdowns. If Brownlee is also unable to play, UNC transfer and former All-ACC corner Storm Duck - who has 15 tackles and a pass deflections in six appearances this season - will likely start in his place.
Kickoff against Duke is set for Saturday, Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m. EST from L&N Stadium.
