LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Returning home to host Miami for a three-game series, the Louisville baseball program was unable to build on the momentum from their big win at Kentucky on Tuesday, falling 6-5 Thursday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Cardinals (27-14, 8-11 ACC) have now dropped four in a row against the Hurricanes (27-15, 13-9 ACC), as well as 13 of their last 24 games this season.

Tucker Biven (4.1 IP, 1 K, 2 BB, 3 H, 2 ER) was tasked with the first start of his young career, and turned in a solid effort. While he gave up a solo home run on the second pitch of the game, he was able to follow that up three scoreless innings of work.

Eddie King Jr. (2-3, 3 RBI, 2 2B) was able to tie the game up with a sacrifice fly in the second, but then Miami took advantage of some miscues by Louisville in the fifth. A throwing error brought home two runs, then reliever Greg Farone (2.2 IP, 3 K, 2 BB, 2 H, 2 ER) gave up an RBI single to make it a three-spot, as well as an RBI double in the sixth.

The Cardinals matched the Canes' scoring burst through the middle innings with one of their own. Will Cook (1-4, RBI) collected an RBI single in the fifth, as did Brandon Anderson (2-4, RBI, 2B) in the sixth. King followed up the latter with a two-run double to give Louisville a game-tying three-spot.

However, Miami had one more run in them, collecting a go-ahead RBI single off of Riley Phillips (1.1 IP, 3 K, 1 H) in the eighth after they chased out Kaleb Corbett (0.2 IP, 1 K, 1 BB). While Phillips responded with a dominant relief inning in the ninth, and the offense was able to load the bases in the bottom of the frame, they were unable to scratch across any runs.

Next up for Louisville, they'll try and even their series against Miami in game two. First pitch is slated for Friday, Apr. 28 at 6:00 p.m. EST, and will be televised on ACC Network Extra and broadcast on 93.9 The Ville.
