No. 1 LSU Takes Series Over Arkansas With 14-5 Victory

Tigers outscore the Razorbacks 26-7 over the final two games, handle business to win series.

Top-ranked LSU used a six-run fourth inning to break a 4-4 tie and propel the Tigers to a 14-5 victory over No. 6 Arkansas in the series finale and second game of a Saturday doubleheader inside Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

LSU’s third baseman put an exclamation on the Tigers’ impressive offensive output with a grand slam in the sixth inning. The four-RBI dinger was his second of the season, and it was his second of the game. He finished with a total of seven RBI and posted a 2-for-4 line.

With the win, LSU improves to 21-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference play, while the Razorbacks fall to 20-4 on the year and 4-2 in conference action.

LSU’s homestand continues Tuesday when Grambling comes to the Box for a 6:30 p.m. CT first pitch. The contest can be streamed on SEC Network+ and can be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network affiliates.

LSU right-hander Garrett Edwards had a marvelous outing out of the bullpen. In the effort, he tossed 4.0 scoreless innings and allowed two hits on 69 pitches. He picked up six strikeouts.

Freshman left-hander Griffin Herring (2-0) earned the win after firing 2.0 innings and allowing one run on two hits.

Razorback reliever Zack Morris (0-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on three hits and tossed for a single inning.

Arkansas opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run from left fielder Jared Wegner. Following a double and three walks, the Razorbacks closed the top of the inning with a two-spot.

LSU responded in the bottom half with a two-run dinger from centerfielder Dylan Crews. With the home run, Crews extended his hit streak to 22 games and currently holds a four-game streak with a long ball. The Tigers’ first baseman Tre’ Morgan scored following a base-on-balls.

Arkansas tacked on two more in the third with a two-run double. Crews smoked an RBI single up the middle in the bottom half to cut the lead in half. Second baseman Gavin Dugas reached via a hit-by-pitch and took second on a wild pitch. Designated hitter Cade Beloso knotted things at four with an RBI knock up the middle.

Beloso finished the game with three singles and knocked in one run in the process.

The ballgame was tied at four after three innings.

In the fourth inning, a barrage of LSU hits ensued. The frame began with a triple from shortstop Jordan Thompson and left fielder Brayden Jobert reaching on a fielding error. With Razorbacks’ shortstop unable to handle the hard-hit ball, Thompson scored. Dugas headed to the plate with a man on and launched his seventh dinger of the season to make the score 7-4.

After a walk from Morgan and another fielding error by Arkansas, third baseman Tommy White scorched a ball over the left field wall to extend LSU’s lead to 10-4. White’s home run total sits at seven on the year.

The Razorbacks got one back in the fifth to make the score, 10-5.

White’s grand slam accounted for the final margin.
