Maryland stays at No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 poll
After a week where the Terrapins (19-4) defeated Rutgers (17-7) and No. 20 Illinois (16-7), they stay put at No. 9 in this week's AP rankings.
It has been a very promising week for Maryland, as they extended their win streak to six. Not only did they beat six-straight Big Ten teams during their hot streak, Maryland also took sole possession of first place in their conference.
The Terrapins are playing with confidence and are a lot better now than they ever were in the beginning of the season. They have silenced some of their critics, winning three games on the road after their winless 0-4 start on away games.
Anthony Cowan Jr and Jalen Smith continue to play at a very high level, as they are the biggest reasons why Maryland is one of the best college basketball teams in the nation. Cowan has led the team in scoring three games in a row.
Maryland is also getting solid contributions from the bench, as Aaron Wiggins remains one of the Terrapins' top 3-point shooters. Eric Ayala, Darryl Morsell, and Donta Scott have played quality basketball throughout the season.
A drop in the power ranking would have been surprising to say the least, but fortunately they remain in the top 10.
There were no major changes in AP poll. The top nine teams remain the same. Baylor (21-1), Gonzaga (25-1), Kansas (20-3), San Diego State (24-0), Louisville (21-3), Dayton (21-2), Duke (20-3), Florida State (20-3), and Maryland (19-4) are the top ranked teams in their respective order. Seton Hall (18-5) is the new No. 10 team as Villanova (17-6) falls to No. 15.
