The Hurricanes welcomed the Florida Gators into town for the first night of their weekend series, and they took their first bite at JD Arteaga in a 7-3 win over Miami.

Powered by three home runs, the Gators held the Hurricanes to just seven hits and just three runs on Friday night. It was a team effort by Florida, as six players each contributed a single RBI. On the mound, the Gators had ten strikeouts as Ryan Slater earned the win for Florida.

Taking a look at the Hurricanes, Florida's power proved to be the decider in this matchup. Miami's pitching combined for 12 strikeouts and allowed one run due to error. Coach Arteaga mentioned during his post-game availability that the bullpen's youth and inexperience provides a challenge for Miami. The Hurricanes were led by the dominance of Andrew Walters last season, but are struggling to find their identity to start the season.

Hitting wise, Miami was led by first baseman Jason Torres who belted a two-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the third. He continues a great start to the season filling in for the void left by CJ Kayfus, as he's up to six home runs on the season.

As for Miami's star freshman third baseman, Daniel Cuvet didn't produce much for the Hurricanes. Entering this game with a .606 batting average, Cuvet was hit by a pitch twice and struck out once.

Looking forward to the rest of the series, these two teams will be back in action tomorrow at 3:00 PM at Mark Light Field as Miami looks to even the series against the 4th ranked Florida Gators.
