Miami basketball is at a crossroads entering February as they prepare for one of the most difficult stretches of basketball ahead of them. They have a chance to make a case for the NCAA tournament, but they also have to win convincingly over the next few weeks ahead of the ACC Tournament.

The Hurricanes' next test will be on the road against Boston College (9-13, 2-7 ACC), bolstering an 8-4 home record. While the Golden Eagles aren't the best team in the ACC (14th out of 18th), they can still cause trouble against the Canes thanks to their size.

Miami Hurricanes Players to Watch: Tru Washington

Washington is a key player to watch because who knows if he is playing or not. If he is, his defensive ability will give a boost that was needed last game against, and it would get him reacclaimed in the offense again.

He has not been the best offensively, but defensively, he is a gem. He is a vital part of the future of Miami.

Boston College Player to Watch: Fred Payne

The team's leading scorer will face a massive challenge as he prepares to fend off the Hurricanes' defense. Payne is averaging 15 points a game and leads the team in field goal percentage. The guard is explosive and can get off the dribble with ease. Focusing on him defensively will make things harder for him.

He has a high turnover range, so that could be one of the many things the Hurricanes look to attack as they aim to increase their turnover margins.

The Canes look to get back on track ahead of playing North Carolina.

Who: Miami Hurricanes and Boston College

When: Saturday, Feb., 7 2:00 p.m. ET

Where: Conte Forum

TV: ACC Network

Radio: WQAM 104.3

Last Outing, Golden Eagles: The eagles feel in pridcitable fashion to the Duke Blue Devils who had a slow offensive night but locked up the eagles limiting them to one field goal in the first five inutes of play.

Last Outing, Miami: The Hurricanes are coming off a bad loss against Cal where they lost thanks to the free throw battle struggles at the end of the game. Two shots rimmed in and out for the win between Shelton Henderson and Tre Donaldson.

Pregame:

First Half:

16:39 — The Hurricanes are one of the best rebounding teams in the country, but right now they are not getting on the offensive boards the way that it gets preached. Miami 9, BC 6

Media Timeout: The Hurricanes are continuing to find their way of getting into the paint, but defensively, they are one of the worst close-out three teams in the country. That is what Boston College can kill them. Miami 11, BC 10

Media Timeout: Donaldson is throwing dots to Malik Reneau while he is killing the Golden Eagles in the paint. The Canes, however, get lost defensively with this small-ball lineup. Offensive plus, defensive minus. The key thing also with no Tru Washington is that he was able to switch onto a four in these small-ball lineups. That is no longer the case for now. Miami 20, BC 16

Media Timeout: Jai Lucas is playing with lineups out there just to see what works and doesn't work with Ernest Udeh Jr. in foul trouble. This has shown that both teams are playing at a very low level. The Canes don't have the true depth needed to compete right now, and they desperately need Tru Washington back.

Boston College Timeout: 6:01 — The Hurricanes are starting to lock up the Eagles on defense and is getting out on transition. They are playing their brand of basketball and they are starting to take off with the score. A nice 9-0 run to give the team some cushion. Miami 28, BC 19

Media Timeout: After going on a run, the Hurricanes get sloppy and allows the Eagles get back into the game. Another issue they have had over the past few weeks. BC goes on a quick 6-0 run. Miami 29, BC 25

Halftime: Miami 34, Boston College 33

The Hurricanes end the half playing sloppy basketball and getting killed in the margins. They have turned the ball over eight times, are missing free throws, playing down to the competition, and are getting killed. This is a typical Miami game; you would assume that against this team, they would perform at a higher level, but they are only up one entering halftime.

Miami also has a massive depth issue, and it can't be fixed this season. An extra thing for to the list for what Lucas needs to add for next season.

Second Half:

Boston College Timeout: 11:55 — The Hurricanes go on a 7-0 run while the Eagles are ice cold. Miami is starting run away with this game, but last time they got up this big, they let a team come back in. Miami 50, BC 40

Miami Timeout: 6:01 — The Hurricanes are playing a dangerous game. After going up team, the Eagles continue to fight back, and now they are within one point. They have been attacking the zone, and Miami continues to turn the ball over. The Margins continue to hurt Miami. Miami 57, Boston College 56

2:49 — This game has gone from a close to now one of the best games of the weekend. The Canes have started to trade the lead back and forth, but Henderson and Donaldson are calm, cool, and collected as they continue to make shots even as the Eagles take a lead. Miami 66, Boston College 63
