When NIL was first legalized on July 1st, 2021, down in Coral Gables was where the first deal was ever signed. Former Miami Hurricane quarterback D'Eriq King started off what would turn out to be one of the largest adaptions to CFB in history.

On Friday Sports Illustrated reported that the previously amended NIL Bill signed on that July 1st date has passed through Florida's Senate and will be headed to the desk of Governor Ron DeSantis.

While this may not seem like much at first glance, SI broke down in a recent article what these changes will do for NIL deals in Florida.

According to the piece, schools will now be able to "directly facilitate deals" instead of having that be between athletes and the sponsor alone. Now, players will be able to consult their coaches regarding deals and have them help if needed as a liaison.

Furthermore, collectives such as John Ruiz's LifeWallet or The Gator Collective will be able to have more avenues to communicate with staff to iron out deals for athletes.

In addition, the new law would implement "entrepreneurship education to language about what financial literacy services schools can provide their athletes, and they can coordinate those programs with collectives." This will allow for athletes to be advised on how they go about spending and/or investing their earnings with respect to collectives and so forth.

The passing of this NIL bill comes just days after Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim scrutinized the University of Miami's NIL usage in helping assemble a nationally ranked basketball roster. According to On3NIL, the ACC released a memo stating "Negative conduct and comments reflect a lack of awareness and consideration".

While this bill is expected to be passed in the coming days, all can and will change if a federal law is established regarding NIL. At the moment states themselves are responsible for how NIL is conducted in their regions.

At the moment there is no timeline as to when a federal law will be passed, but will likely happen in due time.
