Michigan had just the 17th-ranked recruiting class in the 2023 cycle, according to the Composite. The Wolverines won the Big Ten and made it into the College Football Playoff in consecutive years, but Michigan failed to capitalize on a giant haul in the recruiting sphere.

While in the eyes of recruiting analysts Michigan didn't have a top 10 class, if you ask the coaches, the Wolverines found some gems in the class.

ESPN came out with an article naming 39 freshmen who all possess a unique skill ($) entering 2023. The Wolverines had one freshman on the list, and it may surprise some fans -- since he hasn't had the publicity as some freshmen.

Running back Cole Cabana was picked by ESPN as having the best pass-catching skills of any running back entering college this season.

Cabana has excellent ball skills and is very polished as a pass receiver. He can line up in the slot and be just as effective given his hands and route running savvy. He's a difficult matchup in space and will most likely be moved around the backfield in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines have one of the top backfields this season, and it will take time before we see major production from Cabana.

Cabana was the third-ranked Michigan recruit in the class from the 2023 cycle. According to the Composite, the Dexter (Michigan) back was the No. 10 running back and the second-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan.

It was rumored Cabana suffered an injury, but it sounds like he should be healthy at some point during fall camp, or during the season. His fellow freshman teammate, Ben Hall, has been getting most of the attention after his huge spring game.

Hall, Cabana, Kalel Mullings, and CJ Stokes will all be competing for the No. 3 running back job this season.
