In this story:

Linebacker Jimmy Rolder played in 13 games in 2022 as a true freshman. He saw 317 total snaps and was an important part of the Michigan defense. Rolder played 28 snaps against Purdue in the Big Ten title game -- the most of any game last season.

So what's happened to the former four-star recruit?

Michigan ruled him OUT on its pregame availability reports, but Rolder hasn't been listed as out or questionable since. We knew Rolder was 'working through something' as Jim Harbaugh likes to say. While he hasn't been listed on any reports since, Rolder hasn't taken a snap in a game in 2023.

On Monday, Jim Harbaugh was asked about the Illinois product. The plan is to try and work Rolder back into four games this season while getting him a redshirt year.

"He did not redshirt last year, so we have a year to where we're attempting to play Jimmy in the four games and get that year back for Jimmy," said Harbaugh on Monday. "A redshirt doesn't have to be used as a freshman."

With the addition of Ernest Hausmann from the transfer portal, the Wolverines are deep at linebacker. Jaydon Hood has also seen more playing time in 2023, so getting an extra year for Rolder should benefit all sides. There is a strong chance Michigan will lose both Michael Barrett and Junior Colson to the NFL draft this spring.
