Blake Corum Certainly More Confident About "The Game" Than Ryan Day

It seems like Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and Michigan running back Blake Corum feel a little differently about "The Game" and when it should or could be played. After the last two years, are you surprised?

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day seemingly talked in circles about potentially moving "The Game" during Big Ten Media Days. He first said that playing in back-to-back weeks could diminish the importance, but the said that it's always going to matter.

“The game could not have an impact on a whole bunch in terms of if both teams are in the Big Ten Championship Game already, then could it minimize the game?” Day rhetorically asked. “That’s my concern. Even if you play it Week 11 or Week 10, no matter what, it’s going to matter.”

Not exactly a rock solid thought process there, but after two beatdowns in a row, Day might not be thinking clearly. Michigan running back Blake Corum, on the other hand, sounded like he'd play the Buckeyes 12 weeks in a row if necessary.

“The game is always going to be ‘The Game,’” Corum said. “I like where it’s at right around Thanksgiving, but I don’t really care. I see what [Ryan Day] is saying, but I don’t personally have any preference.”

Corum went on to say that he's ready for one, two or even three matchups with Ohio State in the matter of a couple months, and he knows that the rest of the Wolverines feel the same way.

“If you’re going to go into 'The Game' like, ‘Oh, we are playing them next week so it doesn’t matter if we lose this week.’ Come on man, what type of mindset is that?” Corum said. “That’s a loser’s mindset. If I know I’m going to play them next week, then I’m going to play as hard this week as I am next week. It’s not going to take away from 'The Game'. I know my guys, it’s not going to take anything away from my guys. I get what [Ryan Day] is saying, but I don’t think so.”

After playing just a handful of snaps and carrying the ball only twice for six yards against the Buckeyes before succumbing to the knee injury that ended his season that day in Columbus, Corum is obviously fired up for another crack at OSU. As Corum starts to grind in camp and chomp even more at the bit, Day is in Columbus Day-dreaming about beating Michigan, perhaps in October in order to ensure 'The Game' means something.
