Donovan Edwards Explains What Happens When He And Blake Corum Are On The Field Together

According to Donovan Edwards, the only thing that defense can do when he and Blake Corum are on the field together is hope and pray.

Blake Corum is one of the best running backs in the Big Ten and the entire country. And so is Donovan Edwards. Michigan literally has one of, if not, the best running back duos in the entire country and the pair knows it. Edwards, now a 210-pound junior, spoke with the media on Thursday about being on the field with Corum in 2023.

"I hope so you know; that's the coaches plan," Edwards said of he and Corum playing together. "I don't want to say anything too specific but I hope so. You can't cover me and worry about Blake at the same time. You've got to pick and choose; you've got to choose the matchup which you want to lose at."

In Edwards' world, he doesn't even give defenses a chance, and he's probably not wrong. Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore is one of the men in charge of figuring out how to deploy the two-headed monster that is Corum and Edwards and you can tell he's pretty excited about the potential.

"Blake is a phenomenal," Moore said.  "Yesterday, he made the comment to me, he feels like he's got his groove back. I'm just excited to watch him and Dono and just watch them spread their wings and continue to do what they've been doing in training camp, because they're both feeling really good and healthy.

"Donovan practices at a high level. He can do it all, so every game he'll be different places. You saw last year he lined up as wide out, in the backfield, he caught the ball out of the backfield, caught the ball wide and we'll continue to do different things to showcase his talents and get the best players the ball."

Edwards is a confident back, there's no doubt about it, and it's appropriate. The junior has made big plays over the last two seasons, including a few monster ones against Ohio State last year and Purdue in the Big Ten title game. I'm not sure we'll see anything new from Edwards, but maybe just more of what he's already done.

"I mean, you've kind of seen a cluster of everything already," Edwards said. "I can catch, run, pass black — there's not really many things that I can't do."
