Psychic Vibes: Five Specific Predictions For Michigan vs. Indiana

The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines are sitting at 6-0 and will be 7-0 after the matchup with Indiana barring some absolutely outlandish breakdown. However, some weather is expected to throw a wrench into things in Ann Arbor, which makes predicting specific outcomes a little tricky. Michigan is going to win the game, but how will it look?

1. Donovan Edwards will score a touchdown

This is it. This is the final straw. I will not predict a touchdown for Edwards again if it doesn't happen against Indiana. I've gone back to the well several times and I've been wrong every time, surprisingly. It's wild that a back as talented as Edwards has been completely healthy and hasn't found the end zone yet. Against Indiana, a subpar opponent, in the rain, Edwards should get his opportunities and I think he will finally cash in.

2. JJ McCarthy will score a rushing touchdown

Through the first three weeks of the season, McCarthy had zero rushing touchdowns. Over the last two weeks, he has three. As the Wolverines have embarked on Big Ten play, No. 9 has been more effective as a ball carrier and is enjoying doing it. Last week against Minnesota, McCarthy scored two rushing touchdowns when it looked like he was going to be stopped on both. The junior quarterback is faster than he seems, shiftier than he should be and has a knack for picking up whatever yardage he needs. With some rough weather in town, he'll get into the end zone again.

3. Michigan will continue the trend of holding opponents scoreless in the third quarter and outside of the 10-yard line

Michigan's defense boasts two of the most impressive stats in the entire country. Jesse Minter's unit has not been scored on in any third quarter this year, giving U-M a 76-0 advantage in that period, and it also hasn't faced an offense in a goal-to-go situation. That shows just how sound and disciplined Michigan's defense is and that should not change against the Hoosiers.

4. Michigan will have another pick six

Michigan's defense is one of just two teams with three pick sixes on the year and I think they'll get another one against Indiana. Earlier in the year it was Mike Sainristil against Rutgers and last week it was Will Johnson and Keon Sabb in Minneapolis. I'm not going to predict who it will be, but I do think a Wolverine will take another one back to the house in inclement weather.

5. A Michigan running back will lose a fumble

Speaking of inclement weather...

It's not like Mike Hart backs to fumble, but the weather, number of carries and desperation level of the Hoosiers will lead to a Michigan runner to cough one up. Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings have all been pretty secure with the football over their careers, but they're not perfect and there are other backs on the field who will likely play against Indiana. Kind of like with the pick six pick, I'm not say who will put a ball on the turf, but someone will.
