JJ McCarthy Will Be At Least A Top Ten Pick

Michigan's former quarterback JJ McCarthy is shooting up draft boards and we haven't even watched him in the combine yet.

Over the past few months, JJ McCarthy has been projected as an early-second round pick all the way up to the No. 1 overall pick. Okay, the No. 1 overall pick prediction was by Jim Harbaugh, but the point remains — McCarthy is a very intriguing quarterback prospect and he should end up being drafted quite high.

Last week, Brett Whitefield of FantasyPoints.com said that McCarthy "is the perfect marriage between high floor and high ceiling." It definitely feels that way when you watch McCarthy on tape. He wasn't asked to do much at Michigan, but when he let it rip, it was a thing of beauty. He flashed next-level athleticism at times, but again, wasn't utilized as a runner very often. Many seem to think that he can reach exciting new heights in the NFL.

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah recently released his first mock draft and it had McCarthy getting picked in the top ten by the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8 overall.

A lot of people around the NFL expect the Falcons to be aggressive when it comes to finding a quarterback in this year’s draft. They could trade up or, as they do in this case, stay at No. 8 and bet on McCarthy’s traits.

According to Jeremiah, McCarthy is quarterback No. 4 in the upcoming draft, which is one spot higher than most have him. A lot of other experts have Oregon's Bo Nix ahead of McCarthy, but in Jeremiah's mock, Nix isn't even a first rounder. With the combine approaching, it seems completely possible that McCarthy could jump LSU's Jayden Daniels as well. Passing North Carolina's Drake Maye and USC's Caleb Williams seems lofty but not impossible. McCarthy is going to test off the charts and will absolutely blow front offices away with his personality. It's going to be really interesting to see how it all shakes out.
