Stud LB, Miami Commit Elijah Melendez To Visit Michigan, On Flip Watch

Michigan is looking to flip the athletic linebacker away from Miami Hurricanes.

Michigan linebacker coach Brian Jean-Mary and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale might end up being a very solid one-two punch on the recruiting trail. For the time being, they have the attention of at least one big time prospect who happens to be committed to his hometown favorite.

Per Brice Marich of 247 Sports, Michigan is getting ready to host Miami commit Elijah Melendez for a three-day unofficial visit.

Melendez visited Michigan back in November for U-M's big win over Ohio State, so he's definitely familiar with the program and he's obviously very aware of what the Wolverines are capable of. He's been committed to Miami since December, and the Canes are obvioysly much closer to home and willing to dole out big money when it comes to NIL, but Melendez has been very impressed by Michigan. Getting him back on campus this weekend with a full complement of coaches is going to go a long way with him.

The 6-2, 225-pounder out of Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola is viewed as a versatile linebacker who has a great combination of both size and speed. He's more of a thumper and tackler than he is a space player, but he definitely has the quickness and athleticism to play sideline to sideline. If Michigan can pluck him away from the Hurricanes, that would say a lot about where the program is right now, especially on the recruiting trail, under new head coach Sherrone Moore.
