College Football Playoff Shares Expanded Bracket

With only one year left of a four-tea playoff, the College Football Playoff committee recently shared what last year's playoff would have looked like with a 12-team bracket.
If last year's playoff had occurred in the new format that will take over in 2024, Georgia, Michigan, Clemson, and Utah would have all received a first-round bye. The remainder of the playoff field would have consisted of Penn State, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, TCU, Tulane, Tennessee and Kansas State.

It seems pretty obvious that, even with the new 12-team format, No. 1 ranked Georgia would have likely ended up in the national championship game last season. Winning it, on the other hand, might have been a different story.
For Michigan, a first-round by as the No. 2 seed would have resulted in a quarterfinal matchup with either No. 7 Alabama or No. 10 USC. A Michigan win in the quarterfinal would have set up a semifinal game with No. 11 Penn State, No. 3 Clemson, or a rematch with No. 6 Ohio State.
Either way you cut it, it's clear that an expanded playoff will provide College Football fans with a lot more to be excited about when it comes to postseason play.
