Coming off two of the most successful seasons in program history, there's a high-level of confidence that Michigan is ready to take another step forward by winning a national championship in 2023. The Wolverines return veteran quarterback JJ McCarthy, the best running back duo in the country with Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, an NFL-caliber offensive line, and a talented defense that is loaded with experience.

Not only is the confidence level high within the fan base, it's also high within the program. Speaking to a group of fans at a pep rally prior to last Saturday's annual spring game, head coach Jim Harbaugh echoed what many fans already believe - that this is his best team yet.

“As we sit here April 1st, 2023, it’s gonna be the best team...it’s the best version of a Michigan football team on April 1st, 2023 that we’ve ever had,” Harbaugh said. “A great roster of players, tremendous coaches all pulling in the same direction. That doesn’t mean we’re not going to have a letdown as the months go on, but this is the best version of football that I’ve seen since I’ve been here the last eight years.”

"This is not the time to regroup or to rest, or to to take a step back. Now’s the time to attack."

In order to avoid any letdowns in 2023, the Wolverines will need to navigate a difficult seven-game stretch that includes five games on the road - at Nebraska, at Minnesota, at Michigan State, at Penn State, and at Maryland.

Closing out the season, Michigan will welcome Ohio State to Ann Arbor, and both programs will almost certainly be squarely in the College Football Playoff picture. The Wolverines are currently riding a two-game winning streak against the Buckeyes, including a dominant 22-point win in Columbus last season.

If Michigan does make it through the 2023 Big Ten schedule without a loss, it will be the first time the Wolverines have had back-to-back undefeated seasons within the conference since 1991-92. It's also likely that another undefeated season within the conference would mean that Michigan would become the first program in college football history to reach 1,000 wins (currently at 989 wins).
