Michigan Football: Three Key Pieces Of Harbaugh's Staff Receive New Deals

There's a growing sense around Ann Arbor that the 2023 season will be special. Given the amount of talent and depth that the Wolverines currently have, coupled with the current staff that Jim Harbaugh has assembled, it feels like this is Michigan's best shot to capture its first national championship since 1997.
In an effort to keep the momentum in place, Harbaugh recently secured new deals for three critical pieces of his staff. First reported by Aaron McMann of MLive, the terms of the new deals aim to keep OC Sherrone Moore, DC Jesse Minter, and Strength and Conditioning coach Ben Herbert in Ann Arbor for the next three seasons. The specifics of each deal can be found below.
Sherrone Moore, Offensive Coordinator:
- Three-year contract through the 2025 season
- $3.6 million over the next three years
- Eligible for $100,000 bonus for each season the Michigan offense can finish regular season within top-two in scoring (Big Ten) and top-10 in scoring nationally
- Eligible to receive $50,000 bonus for each regular-season win over 8 games
- Buyout: $1 million in Year 1/Year 2‘, $500,000 in Year 3. No buyout at anytime if Moore departs Michigan to become head coach at D1 level.
Jesse Minter, Defensive Coordinator:
- Three-year contract through the 2025 season
- 3.6 million over the next three years.
- Eligible for $100,000 in bonus for each season the Michigan defense can finish regular season within top-two in points allowed (Big Ten) and top-10 in scoring defense nationally.
- Eligible to receive $50,000 bonus for each regular-season win over 8 games
- Buyout: $800,000 in Year 1/Year 2, $600,000 in Year 3
Ben Herbert, Strength and Conditioning:
- $1 million guaranteed annually
- $400,000 signing bonus and $600,000 base salary in 2023
- Base salary will increase to $900,000 per year in 2024, plus an annual retention bonus of $100,000.
- Eligible for $50,000 bonus for each Michigan regular-season win over 8 games (capped at $200,000).
