The Michigan Wolverines opened the 2023 season at home in their first ever matchup with East Carolina last Saturday, and it was certainly an impressive debut for the passing attack. Junior quarterback JJ McCarthy finished his afternoon with the highest single-game completion percentage (86.7) in Michigan Football history (minimum 30 attempts), and senior wideout Roman Wilson led the Big Ten conference by hauling in three touchdown receptions. 

Defensively, the Wolverines were without two starters in the secondary - Rod Moore and Will Johnson - but still looked dominant for a majority of the afternoon. The Pirates managed just 235 total yards and three points against what should be one of the top defensive units in all of college football this season.  Sophomore linebacker Ernest Hausmann (a transfer from Nebraska) led all Wolverines with six tackles, while Junior Colson, Keon Sabb, and Mike Barrett all added five each.
