WATCH: Michigan's Mason Graham Takes Flight

It's not all that shocking when a Division I athlete dunks a basketball, assuming they're at that particular school to play basketball. It becomes far more impressive when the individual throwing it down is a 6-3, 317-pound defensive lineman.
Over the weekend, videos surfaced on social media of DL Mason Graham playing basketball in one of the gyms on U-M's campus. In the clips, Mason can be seen taking flight and dunking the basketball around a whole host of his teammates, who seemed equally as impressed as the rest of us seem to be.
It's worth repeating the Graham is currently listed at 6-3, 317-pounds on the Michigan Football website.
During his freshman year, Graham appeared in all 14 games on the defensive line, and made two starts (Iowa and Penn State). At the end of the 2022 season, he earned Defensive Freshman of the Year honors along with fellow freshman CB Will Johnson.

There's little doubt that Graham will play a major role up front for the Wolverine defense in the 2023, a group that returns guys like Kris Jenkins (Senior), Rayshaun Benny (Junior), Kenneth Grant (Sophomore), and Cam Goode. On the EDGE, guys like Braiden McGregor, Jaylen Harrell, and Derrick Moore are all expected to take a big step forward.
Here's a look at where the Michigan defense finished nationally in several categories during the 2022 season:
- Total Defense: No. 6
- Scoring Defense: No. 7
- Rush Defense: No. 7
- Pass Defense: No. 20
- Third-Down Conversion PCT: No. 26
- Red Zone Defense: No. 53
- Team Sacks: No. 34
With so many experienced players returning, there's plenty of reasons to believe that the Wolverines will once again feature a Top 10 defense in 2023 - one that is fully capable of leading Michigan back to another Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff appearance.
