'He Doesn't Want To Talk About Michigan': Lou Holtz Continues To Terrorize Ryan Day

It's been nearly three days since Ohio State defeated Notre Dame in South Bend, and Lou Holtz is still terrorizing Ryan Day.

It's been nearly three days since No. 4 Ohio State defeated No. 11 Notre Dame in South Bend, but the hilarious beef between Lou Holtz and Ryan Day is still going strong.

Day took issue with some comments that Holtz made during his appearance on College Gameday prior to Saturday's matchup between the Buckeyes and the Irish, and he let the entire country know about it during his postgame interview.

"I'd like to know where Lou Holtz is right now," Day said. "What he said about our team, what he said about our team...I cannot believe. This is a tough team right here. We're proud to be from Ohio, and it's always been Ohio against the world. It will continue to be Ohio against the world. But I'll tell you what, I love those kids and we've got a tough team."

On Tuesday, Holtz responded to Day's postgame comments - and there's little doubt that Day's blood is boiling.

"I can understand why he did. He doesn’t want to talk about Michigan, 0-2," Holtz said. "He doesn’t want to talk about the big game coming up against Penn State and against Michigan again. He’s a great coach. He’s done a tremendous job. He’s a great offensive mind. He hired an outstanding defensive coordinator from Oklahoma State. I think he’s doing a tremendous job. Ohio State’s a good football team. I don’t think they’re a great football team. He can go after me all he wants.”

Ouch.

As I pointed out earlier this week, Day's frustration was obvious during his postgame interview, but I think it had little to do with the comments from Lou Holtz. Day clearly took offense to the idea that anyone would question his programs toughness, but that narrative isn't something new - and it certainly wasn't created by Lou Holtz. The irony is that the lack of toughness is something that Ohio State fans have criticized Day for dating back to the 2021 season, after the Michigan Wolverines bullied the Buckeyes in Ann Arbor. That trend continued in 2022, when the Wolverines walked into Columbus and bullied the Buckeyes once again - and topped it off by planting the block M flag at the 50 yard line when the clock hit 0:00.

Either way you cut it, Day is clearly rattled by the lack of success against Michigan over the last two seasons. Even with an impressive overall record of 49-6 and an appearance in the national championship game, some of the folks in Columbus were still calling for his head last November.

There's no doubt that all eyes will once again be on the matchup in Ann Arbor when Michigan and Ohio State clash on Nov. 25 at noon on FOX.
