Michigan Football: Jim Harbaugh Discusses Huge Milestone On The Horizon

In this story:
Although the ultimate goal is to win a national championship in 2023, Michigan is closing in on a massive college football milestone that is hard to ignore. Heading into this weekend's matchup against Michigan State, the Wolverines are just four wins away from becoming the first college football program to reach 1,000 wins - something head coach Jim Harbaugh discussed at length on Monday.

"That's a culmination of 144 years of Michigan Football," Harbaugh said. "No team has one more. We'll be the first to get to 1,000, God willing and the creek don't rise."
Discussing how the team plans to celebrate such an incredible milestone, it was clear that Harbaugh has put quite a bit of thought into it.
"What ways to honor that, what ways to celebrate that? I've come up with a lot of ideas. I want to get an 'M' ring to every coach that's coached here a certain amount of years, you know, five years, maybe seven. And staff, same thing, maybe a criteria number they're here so long. There's so many things that make the little hairs on my arm stand up that we want to do."
Harbaugh continued to share his ideas:
"What if, I mean, maybe, in the endzone 'Michigan' was spelled with a '1G', instead of an 'IG'. You know, the 'M', that's a roman numeral for one thousand. Their will definitely be a sticker on the helmet."
"I thought Deion Sanders had a great idea where he gave suits to all of the players. I would love to have a suit with a 'Michigan, one thousand' on there. Hopefully it comes this season, we're working really hard to make that happen."
If things go according to plan, the Wolverines will reach the 1,000 win milestone in Week 11 on the road against Maryland, before returning home for the final game of the regular season - and what will hopefully be win No. 1,001 against Ohio State.
