The #1 team in America is right here in East Lansing and of course we are talking about the Michigan State Spartans and their Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo.
The Spartans kick off the season officially November 5 at 9:30 PM in New York. The Spartans will be taking on the Kentucky Wildcats in the Champions Classic. No doubt that nation’s attention is already looking at the critical first game of the year heavyweight fight.
Cassius Winston is a critical part of this Spartans team and Tom Izzo raved about his senior star. He said, “We rested him the first six weeks of the summer. He is the straw that stirs the drink, and I think deserves all the attention he's been getting because he is a special player, but I think he's handled it pretty well too with a lot of class and has worked hard.”
Izzo went on to add, “To have a chance to reach something pretty impressive, and that's 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, should be one of his goals, should be one of our goals because it's something that is very, very special. But maybe more special would be to lead this team each and every day to getting better. I think his strength is a lot better. Definitely we worked on his leg strength. I think his defense has improved a lot in practice. We'll see how it goes in the game.”
