Hondo I really enjoyed Anthony Ianni on the radio show. I thought his answer to a question about what staff member is most ready for the job should Izzo leave and who he
would want to get it interesting. Do you agree with Dane Fife and the Butler coach? Pete
I do. Fife is the most ready to take over as head coach right now at a B1G school. I also agree that if Izzo were to leave Brad Stevens is a no brainer choice and I do think he would be the next coach at MSU should that happen sooner rather than later.

I am hearing that several of the guys are having great summers. Any word?  Don
I appreciate the zeal, but this is ONLY May.  There can be a lot of guys working, but the grind is July and August. Since no one gets to see the
workouts it is all hyperbole anyways.  July and August are the big months.  Can guys stay motivated with a long way to go for the season? I am hearing things, but I trust nothing. I have heard great things before that didn’t match what I knew.  Just too early for a final thought or even judgment.

Hondo when I read you and other local guys I get the sense that you all are more excited about Travis Trice then maybe the fans. What are you seeing to feel that way? Jesse
A lot.  Travis has the intangibles. He has great vision. He has superb footwork and he is the single best shot to step up and be a leader. It is very difficult to be Tom Izzo’s point guard.  He not only expects you to be a player, but a coach on the floor. A true leader is one that doesn’t struggle with being that. Some guys do not have the raw material to lead. That doesn’t make them bad people or players. We saw and heard about several times Trice asserted himself last year. The Spartans will have a ton of talent next year, but Tom Izzo agrees with me that leadership will be the key. If you are talking leadership, Trice is the number one key for that to happen and for the Spartans to go from talented to special next year. I can also tell you
that many inside Spartan basketball agree with me on that.

Hondo I don’t hear a lot of talk about Adreian Payne stepping up as a captain and leader. With so much talent and NBA ability do you think he could step up and lead this team

Hondo I was shocked when watching the video of Mark Hollis that he said the basketball team would not be taking a trip out of the country. Izzo has talked about this for
two years. Why do you think it didn’t happen? Leslie
I was not shocked. Izzo has discussed it, but I am told by people in the athletic department it never got past being talked about and has not ever been close to a reality. In the future? Perhaps, but last year and this year it was never close.
