Sweet Sixteen

“No one expects us to win, were not supposed to win according to all the pundits, was the rallying cry of Memphis coach John Calipari. In fairness to Calipari, many people (sure in the Spartan Nation) nationally do see this game as a game that the Spartans can triumph in.
Â
Memphis is no doubt a very athletic team, but they are also a team that lacks defensive intensity and that hurts them against a Spartan team that demands a defensive scheme that calls for that.
Â
Another issue that the Tigers are facing here is that the Spartans not only aren’t afraid of running with them, they will push it when they can. Not one team that Memphis has faced this season has tried that. Some have run, but not one has gotten back in their face with any consistency and tried to push back at Memphis. Tennessee beat them, but in fairness to the Tigers they broke down at the end and beat themselves.
Â
MSU is ready for this game. They want this game. Memphis hasn’t walked into an arena all year with a team hungry for a piece of them like the Spartans are. This team can’t wait.Â
Â
Calipari is playing the no respect card like all good coaches do and should, but there is a sense here in Houston he may have a legitimate complaint. No doubt the Tigers are good, and there is no doubt that the Spartans are too.Â
Â
This game will be fun to watch. This game is going to be a heavyweight-boxing match. This is a game the Spartans can win, and this is a game that Tigers know they can lose. Get your popcorn and let’s get it on!

Â
AD Mark Hollis informed me that Magic and John Smoltz will be in the house tonight.  Mooch is already here, I spoke to him at the hotel.
