Tom Izzo Gets Some Good News As Season Nears…

Tom Izzo is a great coach for many reasons. One doesn’t become a Hall of Fame caliber leader for just one quality. One of his strengths is an incredible balance of seeing ahead while not losing sight of today.

Izzo continues to be on a tear in recruiting as one of America’s best 2016 recruiting class players, Miles Bridges from Flint, MI announced today that the Spartans have made the cut on his list to the final five schools he is considering playing for. Bridges is among the top players in the 2016 class and the small forward has an amazing game.

There are some players who come in and no matter how good they are, need that early growth time to be impact guys. Draymond Green is one that comes to mind who is forever a Spartan Nation ICON, but wasn’t a major impact player young. Bridges is an immediate contributor. His nose for the rim is electric, and although coaches would like to see more of an outside game utilized, he has it, and that is special.

Bridges can do it all and that is what sets him apart. He dominated the Nike Peach Jam this weekend while numerous head coaching hopefuls, hungry for his talents watched and gazed. Two of them were MSU head man Tom Izzo and UK’s John Calipari.

While Bridges could go anywhere he wanted to play, it is widely believed by those close to the situation that at this point MSU and UK are the two teams to beat. Despite that conventional train of thought, Bridges list had the Spartans and Cats as well as Michigan, North Carolina and Indiana to round out the top five.

Bridges will make his official visit to MSU the weekend of the Spartan football team’s home tilt with the Oregon Ducks on September 12. He will be making his official visit to Kentucky for their midnight madness event, called Big Blue Madness.

Bridges is a native of Flint, MI having attended Southwestern Academy. He transferred after his freshman campaign to Huntington Prep in Huntington, West Virginia, one of the nation’s elite high school basketball programs.

Izzo is well respected in the city of Flint and the cities connection to Spartan basketball is legendary. Many a great, “Flintstone,” has done superior things at MSU and Bridges certainly has that lineage and heritage at the top of his mind when thinking about the Spartans.
