19 GA ATH Winston Wright Plans Michigan State Visit

Since the start of the 2018 calendar year, Savannah (GA) Memorial Day School 2019 ATH Winston Wright has seen his recruitment pick up as he’s received a handful of offers and has received interest from several top schools, including #5 Michigan State, in recent months.

Spartan Nation recently caught up with the 5-foot-9, 170-pound standout, who has made a name for himself playing on both sides of the ball, and Wright said he’s very interested in the Spartans and feels like he could be a good fit in East Lansing.

“I’m really interested,” he said. “Knowing they’re in a big conference where they’re going to succeed and do well in. The offense is a spread base offense, so I would eat a lot and be able to showcase my talents and get to the next level.”

So far in the recruiting process, Wright has received offers from Boston College, Marshall, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Central Florida and several other Division 1 programs.

Wright already has a close connection to the Spartans as he is close friends with Michigan State 2019 commit Jordan Huff, who is also from the state of Georgia and has told Spartan Nation that he’s been working to get Wright to join him in East Lansing.

“Jordan, that’s my boy,” Wright said. “When we met at the rising senior game and we were on the same team, we got a chance to just bond a lot and talk a lot. We had a lot in common, we both love the game, we’re both on another level in the game and ever since then, we’ve just clicked. That’s my brother. That’s our relationship.”

While there isn’t an official date at the moment, Wright said that he and Huff are planning on visiting Michigan State at some point in the coming weeks. He told Spartan Nation, “I am coming up soon with Jordan.”

When he does make his visit to East Lansing, Wright said that he’s looking forward to spending time with the Michigan State coaching staff to make sure that he feels comfortable with them both on and off of the football field.

“I just want to see the coaching staff, I’ve been talking to them a lot and they just want to see me before they offer me,” he said. “I just want to make sure they’re a good coaching staff to be around as a person and not just as a football player that can make me a better person in life.”

Wright, who is more than capable of playing on offense and defense, said he feels like he would excel playing in the slot in the college level, but is open to playing on either side of the ball.

When asked about the idea of playing alongside Huff, Wright said he would love to have the chance to play at the next level with his close friend.

“That would be fun, playing with somebody at the same level and what we accomplished (in high school),” he said. “That’s one of my best friends right there, so that would be really cool to play with him for the next four years.”
