20 MI S Makari Paige Talks Michigan State Offer

Although he still has two more years at the high school level left before he moves on to college, West Bloomfield (MI) 2020 safety Makari Paige is already on the radar of several top Division 1 programs and recently picked up his fifth offer from #5 Michigan State.

Spartan Nation recently caught up with Paige to talk about his newly received offer from the Spartans and the 6-foot-2, 185 pound 4-star recruit said he was excited to have received an offer from Michigan State head coach Mark Dantoniopersonally.

“I was on campus, I took a visit to a practice,” he said. “Coach White called me over to meet coach Dantonio and he was talking to me and then offered me. It was very exciting.

“I was super excited to be offered by Coach D himself. That means a lot to me.”

Along with his offer from Michigan State, Paige also holds offers from Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Boston College and Indiana and is also hearing from Iowa State, Kentucky, Syracuse and Notre Dame.

Paige also told Spartan Nation that while he grew up as a Michigan fan, he did grow fonder of the Spartans during his time growing up, but does remain a fan of the Wolverines.

“Honestly, I grew up as a Wolverine fan,” he said. “But over the years I would root for Michigan State.”

Paige noted that he plans on returning to East Lansing for the spring game and said that he ‘more than likely’ will be camping at Michigan State this summer.

On his most recent visit to Michigan State, Paige was able to spend a good amount of time with the Michigan State defensive backs group, as well as new defensive backs coach Paul Haynes.

Paige said that he enjoyed getting a chance to get to know Haynes and watch him coach and also noted that he was able to sit in on a defensive backs meeting as well.

“He seemed like a pretty cool guy, very nice,” Paige said of Haynes. “He knows what he’s teaching.”

“It’s a very cool experience being with the players and seeing what coach Haynes is telling them.”
