Answering your Michigan State Football Questions and Emails…

Hondo, I must confess I was a little shocked that you let so many people be negative towards MSU. I don’t want to hear people complain about Coach D or Mark Hollis. We are a top ten team. Let’s keep it on the field. Mary Stump

I was shocked as well Mary. Wasn’t even close, over 80% of the email I got was not receptive of the comments from MSU. I think they spoke out of emotion (we all have), but the normally politically astute movers, made a mistake in my opinion.

Hondo, I appreciated your question of Coach Dantonio about another reason teams are playing the Spartans tight is that we are getting their best shot. I have two colleagues who are Maryland and Rutgers alums. There are others in our offices from five other Big Ten schools. They both can’t wait for our game and OSU because our schools have become the measuring stick. Nathan

No argument. I don’t think it is an excuse, and MSU certainly has to fix those issues, but they are the hunted every week.

Last year a really fun side story of our team was the celebration in the locker room after a win. Those guys seemed to be having a great time. Is this team having as much fun this year, or are expectations bringing down the mood? Rick Emerson

They are having fun, but it is too early to make a call on the fun of last year comparison because we remember the B1G championship game and Rose Bowl closest in our mind. This week tells us a lot about this team moving forward.

I watched the Purdue game last night and watched Conner Cook's mechanics. Would you comment on his footwork? Is this another issue like Kirk Cousins throwing off his back foot? Jim

No QB or player for that matter is perfect. This week Coach Warner acknowledged it wasn’t great, but was very honest. “I’m most interested in Connor’s decision making. Obviously, his footwork is very important, but it’s not as important as the decision he makes on where he goes with the football and what he does with his eyes. People can make of it what they want. I would love for him to have perfect footwork, but I put my emphasis elsewhere.”

Hondo - how much will the Football Playoff Selection Committee look at our score against UM, vs the plastering that Notre Dame gave them? They (UM) would be the only common opponent (that matters) we have with Notre Dame, no? Randy

I think a lot. They are human and if you are splitting hairs you look at everything. Great point and one that I had not heard anyone other than me utter until your email.

Hondo, what is with the punt return play by the Spartans? In my non-professional opinion it looks like we are not really attempting to block the kick, but even more so not really attempting to block for a return. Every time Kings catches it, he has to call for a fair catch because there are multiple defenders running at him unblocked. Are they just playing it safe to prevent a fake? David Herc

Certainly I would agree it is a point of concern. I think this is one of the most disappointing parts of the team. After this weekend (I want to reserve judgment for this game), I will start digging more if it doesn’t improve.

Hondo, I am a diehard Michigan fan who loves to watch, read, and listen to you all the time. I am similar to you in that I embrace the rivalry, but I find the respect you have for my University to make this rivalry more fun. Thanks for being one of the many reasons MSU vs. UM in any sport at any time fun. Chris Lou

Hondo, I hope you are celebrating with a big hot dog MSU destroying Michigan on Saturday and on your twelfth dog you choke on it and die. Then we get rid of Brady for getting his butt kicked badly by you farmers and we get rid of a disgusting blob on humanity known as Hondo. Go Blue. Ryan

Ryan, I am a little confused. Could you please reword and not hold back so I can understand your meaning? Should I not expect a Christmas card this year?

Hondo, as a UM fan do I have any hope in this game? No one here seems to think so. Anthony W.

Sure you do. This is a rivalry game. Records don’t matter. This is about pride. Your team HAS NOT given up on their coach. That is something you can admire.

There you go everyone. That is your weekly MSU football questions and answers article. Make sure you send your questions to SpartanNationMail@yahoo.com and put in the subject line Football Q/A. Thank you.
