I think he is working hard towards one. He is a super player and development is the name of the game for him. With his two brothers (Jakub & Mike) already here, I wouldn’t bet against Patrick.

Hondo is there a recruit in this 2018 class that you think is flying under the radar as far as people not talking about him for next year? Thank you. Paul R. in Linden, MI

Yes, I think that DE Parks Gissinger from Chaminade College Preparatory in California is going to have an immediate impact.

Hondo do you have any expectations of Justice Alexander this year? You have written about him a little. Thank you for all you do, Kurt Thomas

“My motivation is just my love for the game,” is what Justice told me last week after practice. He has all of the God-given things with speed, height, weight, and skill. He now has to make it work on the field. I know Coach Bullough is giving him a ton of time and he is utilizing it. I know he is a great kid that everyone likes, but this is year four in the program and if he doesn’t make a move who knows when. Reminds me a lot of Joel Heath (Houston Texan DT) who came into his own in year four. No predictions, but we shall see.

Hondo, maybe it’s just me but lately, I’ve been seeing a lot more recruits that we’ve offered all of a sudden be offered by Michigan. Gabe Newburg is a recent example. Have you noticed the same thing and if so any thoughts? Seems like an odd recruiting strategy but what do I know. Seems like Dantonio should on their payroll as an unofficial talent evaluator for them ha-ha. Thanks, Chris Kozlowski

I know that the short time Dan Enos was in Ann Arbor the only thing that Jim Harbaugh wanted to talk about was Mark Dantonio. I know they wanted another former Spartan as well. Dantonio has free rent in the head of the khaki-wearing Messiah of the Wolverines and it isn’t a shock. Dantonio owns the Wolverines and flat outcoached and embarrassed Harbaugh last season. He should have Dantonio on is mind.

Watts-Jackson is forever an icon by scoring a winning touchdown against Michigan in 2015 on a botched punt. How devastating is the loss now that he is going to be a grad transfer? Kayla L.

Jalen is an ICON as you suggest and a super person. He loves football and to his credit, he took care of his academics. He was simply not good enough to play at MSU in the defensive rotation and he loves the game. All players like that should go on if they can and play the game they love. His loss will be sad because he is a great person, but there will be no impact on the field.

Hondo what are you hearing from NFL people about Brian Allen? Chris Mier

A lot. People know what he is and he is solid. His Pro Day didn’t help or hurt him. People know he is Mr. Consistent and they love that. Last week ESPN Draft Guru Mel Kiper, Jr. said of him, "I think that's just the way you view him. He's a scrapper, he's in there battling every play, he's a veteran. You're going to get more out of him, I think than a lot of people think. I think a backup-type is the way he's going to be viewed going in."

Hondo I love the thoughts from camp. You have told us what you are hearing about Chuck Bullough, but what are the players saying? Tina Williams

Hi Tina. Justice Alexander said, “This offseason might have been the most coaches pushed us. In the film room, in the weight room, running, just training, school work. There’s no, ‘I can go harder on this but I might go a little on this.’ No. It’s giving more effort and consistency. We’re buying into it.”

Hondo I do not remember much from Connor Heyward last year and now you are saying he might play a lot at RB? What did he do? Can you refresh me, please? K. Smith

Last season Heyward had three rushes for 10 yards and four receptions13 yards. He averaged 21.8 yards per kick return (20 attempts).

Hondo it was exciting to hear you on your show and in writing about LJ Scott really growing up and taking a leaders role. Is that team-wide? With so many young backs behind him

Connor Heyward is his backup and has raved about Scott’s maturity. He said, "He's had his mistakes here, but he's a really well-rounded person and he means well. He just shows me what I'm supposed to do on and off the field, especially on the field. Just like drills, little technique stuff. He's been All-Big Ten, and he's done some really successful things here, so why not listen to him?"

Hondo if you had to guess who the next commitment for the 2019 class will be who would you pick? Carlos Garza

It could be a couple but my GUESS would be DE Adam Berghorst 6-7, 245-pounder. Would play baseball and football at MSU (scholarship would be for football) and is an elite player. It could be three different guys, but since you asked me to guess one, I just did.

Hondo who is going to be our starting defensive backs when the season kicks off? Ken Lynch

Hondo I am curious about something. I know you cover MSU, but why would UM cancel their series with Virginia Tech in football. I heard they had to pay a lot of money to do it? Andy Fizer

According to Michigan, “The home-and-home series with Virginia Tech scheduled for the 2020 and 2021 seasons has been terminated. Michigan has agreed to pay VT a $375,000 cancellation fee.” The Big Ten East is brutal. Jim Harbaugh is in NO danger of losing his job, but he needs wins. Dantonio is already in his head and he doesn’t need losses in the pre-conference season.

Is there going to be a spring game draft this year? Barbara H. Bliss

Yes! Prior to the spring game, MSU's coaching staff and players will conduct a free youth football clinic, sponsored by Sparrow Health System. Children, ages 8-12, are invited to attend the youth clinic (no registration required) from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. Gates to the John and Becky Duffey Practice Fields, located off of Shaw Lane, will open at 12 p.m.

Hondo I know that you have had been very high on Brian Lewerke and Rocky Lombardi. You have said that Lewerke had a great offseason working on his weak points. How about Lombardi and what do you think is his biggest weak spot? Kelly Tucker

The weak spot with Lombardi in the Michigan State system they have now is the RPO game. The Run Pass Option plays. He talked about addressing that last week, "RPOs are so much different than anything I've done, but I feel like I'm picking them up well.”
