Answering your Michigan State Football Questions and Emails…

Hondo, after Maxwell’s senior season the coaches said they learned their lesson and promised more game experience for backup QBs. It doesn’t seem to me that has happened as much yet as it should. Would you agree? If so, do you expect to see any increase in minutes for O’Connor and/or Terry this year? Thanks, Tim

They have done some, but I asked Dantonio about this. Below is my exact question and his answer:

In 2012 when the season ended, you said that looking back you maybe had made a mistake not getting Andrew ready Kirk's senior year. I'm curious, will you be wanting to determine that second string quarterback quickly so you can do things differently?

MARK DANTONIO: I would say that both those guys, Tyler O'Connor and Damion Terry are both guys that they've both been on the field a lot for us already. They both, I think, have a good grasp and knowledge of the offense, and I think probably when the time comes, they'll probably have to assert themselves on the field. Right (now) I don't think there is a distinction, but certainly as we move forward in fall camp you try and make those decisions. And then as far as playing them early, if the opportunity presents itself, we want to play those guys early, much like we did last year, even in the Penn State game. I wasn't afraid to put Damion in on the 5 yard line. That was his time. But tough situation. But I think both those guys have done a nice job so far.

Hondo, You’ve talked about Coach Narduzzi wanting Coach Barnett, Coach Tressel and Coach Salem when he came here to Pittsburgh. I was sad as a Spartan that he left MSU, but glad he is here. I was wondering if any maybe wanted to go with him, but he wasn’t interested. Could you say who? Karen in Pittsburgh

Yes, there is one that did want to go, but I do not think there was mutual interest. No, I will not name names.

Hondo, I was curious since Coach Dantonio says that no decision has been made on Delton Williams serving game or more suspension, what your guess is on how many games? Sean D.

As long as everything stays as it is today, I do not anticipate him sitting out any games as a punishment.

Hondo, I know the media wasn’t allowed at the scrimmage, but I also know you talk to a lot of people that were allowed there. What did you hear about anyone who really stood out? D.N.

Jake Hartbarger is a person that everyone I talked with who was at the scrimmage mentioned first or second. Now remember, he is young. That doesn’t mean anything. He has to be consistent, but he was VERY IMPRESSIVE. One person said, “He was punting, on two of those he was launching.” Again, I was not there, but that tells you something when EVERYONE I spoke with mentioned him. Including Dantonio.

Hondo, you seem to be very encouraged by Aaron Burbridge. Care to expound? Matt Thomas

Yes, I love how he has come in with his attitude and maturity and I think that is a monster deal. Aaron has all of the talent in the world. Truly, God has blessed him with talent. Sadly, in the past AB has been his own worst nightmare. It would appear, not anymore.

Hondo, with the loss of Narduzzi who would you call the number one assistant on Mark Dantonio’s staff? Curt Ryan

Jim Bollman. A genius. He was loyal at OSU and those fans ate him alive. He just kept his mouth shut and is one of the finest offensive minds and coaches I have ever met. A true genius. Every time I hear Buckeyes attack him I laugh; they simply are stating their credentials for ignorance and blatant stupidity.

There you go everyone. That is this week’s question and answer article. If you have a question never hesitate to email at SpartanNationMail@yahoo.com and put in the subject line FB Q/A
