Answering your Michigan State Football Questions and Emails…
Last year at the Big Ten Championship, it seemed like MSU was more relaxed and loose before the game since they had been there before. Reading some of Urban Meyer and OSU players’ comments, I am not sure if they are really focused or if they will be tense before the MSU game. It seems to me that Coach D likes his team focused and somewhat relaxed- does that seem accurate? Scott Corrin
100% accurate. I Tweeted prior to the B1G championship game just that; how OSU was tense and MSU was relaxed. That is a big advantage in situations like this.
Hondo, I can’t wait for your scouting report and prediction. Any chance at just one nugget? What is the biggest key in this game? Carol Mueller
Simple Carol. OSU can’t beat MSU without the Spartans help. If MSU doesn’t help the Buckeyes, they win by double digits. They are the better team.
Hondo, I am a Spartan living in Ohio and it is classic to hear you on the radio down here when they interview you. Love how you rub Jim Bollman in their face. Good job. Mike S.
Thanks Mike. They basically ran the man out of town. Sadly, just like a lot of Spartan fans wanted to do with Pat Narduzzi early on. Bollman is not a good coach; he is a great coach and the hardware he has accumulated over his career proves it.
Hondo, The Ohio State players (post Illinois game) made several loud and strong comments about how they felt after losing the game last season to MSU. This included the coaches. To me, and I may be wrong, these statements came across as selfish, condescending, and arrogant. It was as if the OSU players were acting under a sense of entitlement that the championship game was theirs to win solely and that MSU had no business taking what should have rightfully been OSU's game. Dan
That isn’t a question so I have nothing to answer, but it is a germane observation.
Now, should we be concerned about Geiger kicking FG's? Scott Lehr
Yes. Championship teams play better quality opponents as the level of games increase. That is why the scores get tighter. We need Geiger. He is a great kicker and person, but he is not producing. I believe in him, but yes, panic would be a better word.
Honda - can you give me your opinions on the penalties called against the Spartans in the UM game? I know I'm biased but it sure seems that officiating crew is not the best. Were they good legitimate calls? Paul Marsh
I had no issues with the referees. I HATED the targeting rule on Chris Frey, Jr., but it didn’t make the call wrong. I hate the rule. If a player targets, they should be kicked out BUT this is a moving and fast sport. If the opponent changes their position you can’t do anything about that.
Hondo, I was wondering about the lack of DE play outside of Calhoun and Rush. When you talked about that on the show last week I got terrified. Thanks for pointing it out, but you ruined my day. T. Lang
Sorry to scare you, but it is true. I am going to talk with Dantonio more about that after this week. Didn’t think it was the time with OSU on the radar, but will talk with him about that next week. Very concerning when looking at the long term of the D.
Hondo, I love hearing you talking Michigan State here in Oklahoma when you are a guest on the radio station in Oklahoma City. Do you think Dantonio would ever leave MSU for another college job? Jon Cushion
Jon, I have said many times that there is only one college job that I think Dantonio would leave MSU for. With all of his success, I have doubts he would leave now, but there is only one other. Sorry, Oklahoma is not on that list.
There you go everyone. That is your weekly MSU football questions and answers article. Make sure you send your questions to SpartanNationMail@yahoo.com and put in the subject line Football Q/A. Thank you.
