One of the best running backs in the country in the 2014 recruiting class could be bound for East Lansing. Madre London told Spartan Nation that, “I made a decision, and will be announcing my choice very soon.”

London talked with Hondo S. Carpenter recently on Spartan Nation Radio about his tour of campus during Homecoming weekend a couple weeks ago and why enjoyed the trip, the idea of being a Spartan and much more.

Scouts and coaches have long admired Madre London’s talent. Displaying astounding athleticism, solid size, consistent catching ability, as well as an aptitude for blocking, London has drawn offers from over 20 colleges. Many high-profile programs, such as MSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Florida State and South Carolina have heavily pursued the youngster.

Attending a well-respected high school in St. Thomas Aquinas High School, an eight-time Florida state champion, London benefitted from increased visibility. Luckily for London, once you see him play running back, you can’t look away.

The senior is lightning-quick out of the backfield and has the ability to make would-be tacklers miss. When defenders do manage to grab onto him, London drags tacklers with him, often picking up crucial extra yards. He also does the little things that a running back must do to succeed. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native not only reels in passes with passes with ease, but blocks for his fellow running backs and the quarterback quite well.

Mark Dantonio and his coaching staff noticed the young man’s talents early on, and recruited him from the get-go. As a result, Michigan State is one of London’s top two schools, with Nebraska being the other, as he told Spartan Nation in June.

Since we last caught up with London, he has lit up the competition during his senior season. St. Thomas Aquinas sits at No. 6 in the state of Florida and No. 50 in the country thanks in part to London’s outstanding play. His most recent performance came during a 35-0 win over Cypress Bay on Friday, as he rushed for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

In between dominant performances, London has been making college visits and thinking about his decision. He came to East Lansing for Homecoming weekend against Indiana recently and enjoyed every minute.

“It was good, it was really good,” London said. “It was really good seeing everybody in their Green and White, cheering for the players, and the coaches, hyped up with their enthusiasm.”

While watching the Spartans trounce the Hoosiers, 42-28, and roll up 238 yards on the ground, London realized that he would fit in perfectly with the MSU offense.

“I can definitely [fit in] because they run the ball a lot. That’s a big part of my recruitment: I want to get the ball and I definitely can get it there,” London said.

The Florida native also loved the fans, 73,800 strong, who showed great enthusiasm for the Green and White.

“I enjoyed the crowd. The gameday was really good, it was a packed house,” he said. “With homecoming, getting to see all the alumni, the great players who played at Michigan State, I got to see them all. It was a packed crowd, it was really loud.”

Many of those in attendance recognized London as a player who could potentially develop into the next Javon Ringer or LeVeon Bell. Those who saw the youngster were excited to see him, asking the senior to sign autographs.

“It’s always an honor, being in this spot to be in the spotlight,” London said. “It gives me a chance to get used to it, if later on in the future, I do really good. It’s always an honor having little kids and everybody know who I am, and wanting my autograph and follow me. It’s a dream come true. It’s always been my dream to give autographs to little kids. It’s a blessing to see how many little kids look up to me and I aspire to that.”

Following his visit to MSU, London has his mind made up. He will not reveal the decision, however, until after his last college visit on November 2. He promised to post his college choice on Twitter, and keep his ever-widening fan base informed.

Luckily for the anxious members of the Spartan Nation reading this, Michigan State is one of London’s top options.

“I can see myself playing there, they’re still in play. I really already have my decision made right now, I’m just going to wait to take my two other visits just to get that experience,” he explained. “I already know where I’m going to go, it’s going to be a surprise.”

But despite his new-found fame and notoriety as a star recruit, he still gives much of the credit to his mom and his brother.

“I was born in a single parent house, so that’s always going to be tough on a kid, but my mom found a way,” London said. “It’s always tough trying to raise all boys when you’re just a single mom, so I give all the honor to her…If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be doing any of this, I wouldn’t be the best I could be in football. I just want to thank my brother too, he kept me up to date and how to be a young man. Football-wise, he taught me all the aspects of the game and that’s good.”

Regardless of the college he chooses, London has boundless potential, only made better by his humility. Hopefully for the Spartan Nation, London will bring his amazing skills and well-rounded personality to East Lansing.
