Mark Dantonio Lands #21 for the 2016 Football Recruiting Class in Elite K Matt Coghlin from Ohio
It didn’t take Mark Dantonio to accumulate his 21st commitment to the MSU Spartans 2016 class when elite kicker Matt Coghlin pulled the trigger to pledge to the Spartans. The original plan for MSU has been all along to take a K in this class as a full scholarship player immediately.
With the quick acceleration of the class and the amount of top tier players that are still HIGHLY considering MSU, the talented K may gray shirt and still enter next summer with the 2016 class, but go on scholarship in January of 2017. The Spartans are going to only hand out 25 scholarship in this class.
It wouldn’t matter because he would still get his four year scholarship; it would just allow Dantonio to continue to stockpile 2016 talent. The Spartans already have two commitments for the 2017 class to go along to the aforementioned 21 in 2016.
Dantonio loves to bring his elite K and P recruits over into Spartan Stadium to kick in a pressure environment while the young men they are competing for a lone scholarship are watching. Coghlin had nerves of steel when he lined up and booted a 53-yarder for all to see. That cemented in the Spartan staff they had their man.
Coghlin is from Cincinnati, Ohio and specifically Bishop Moeller high school whick has become a pipeline to MSU.
