4-star WR Nick Marsh, former MSU commit, has Spartans in 'Top 12' with decision date set

Can Michigan State bring 2024 in-state four-star WR Nick Marsh back into the fold?

Michigan State football made a splash to open its 2024 recruiting cycle when four-star River Rouge (Mich.) wide receiver Nick Marsh became the first commit in the Spartans' class back on July 31, 2022.

However, after spending nine months after giving his verbal pledge to MSU, Marsh re-opened his recruitment back on March 7. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder said he would still considered Michigan State, but needed more time to consider all of his options.

It now appears that Marsh is ready to make a final decision, and the Spartans are indeed still in the race for one of the best prospects in the country.

Marsh recently included Michigan State alongside Auburn, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Kansas, UCLA, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oregon and Maryland in his 'Top 12'. He reportedly will commit to his future school on July 7.

Regaining Marsh's commitment and bringing the four-star back into the fold of the Spartans' 2024 recruiting class would be a massive victory on the trail for Michigan State. The in-stater is considered the third-best high school prospect from Michigan in his class, and is currently ranked No. 86 overall the No. 14 wide receiver prospect in the country. He has garnered more than 35 offers.

The River Rouge native had been the second-highest ranked commit of head coach Mel Tucker's tenure at Michigan State, trailing only 2023 edge rusher Bai Jobe (No. 54 nationally).

Here's how 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu evalutes the River Rouge native:

Big, physical receiver who has played up on the varsity since his freshman year. Has always been ahead of the curve as far as size and strength. Also has very good ball skills and the body control necessary to use his size. Contested passes are not really 50-50 balls for him as he comes down with a large percentage of them. Has improved his suddenness and straight-line speed. Still has to keep doing that, especially for a player of his size to create separation at the college level. Shows route-running craft and technique, just has to keep adding to his quickness. Will have a chance to play early because he will be physically ready. Will be a major red-zone threat and a physical mismatch for opponents and projects as an impact outside receiver at the high-major level.

Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins has been hard at work in keeping the Spartans as a top option for Marsh following the four-star's de-commitment. Over the past month and a half, Marsh has taken unofficial visits to MSU, Auburn, Tennessee and Penn State, and picked up a scholarship offer from Oklahoma.

Marsh is scheduled to officially visit Penn State on June 2.
