3-star WR Tra'Mar Harris commits to Purdue over Michigan State, others

In this story:
Michigan State is still seeking its first wide receiver commitment in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and the Spartans saw one of their targets pledge to a different Big Ten school on Friday.
Three-star Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods wide receiver Tra'Mar Harris has committed to Purdue, choosing the Boilermakers amongst a 'Top 5' which also included Michigan State, Cincinnati, Indiana and Liberty.

Harris took an official visit to East Lansing back on June 9, before taking subsequent trips to Indiana (June 16) and Purdue (June 23). He is ranked No. 767 nationally, the No. 100 wide receiver and No. 24 player from Ohio in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins will have to pursue other options with Harris off the board. Fortunately, the Spartans still have a handful of talent options, led by four-star River Rouge (Mich.) WR Nick Marsh, who will announce his commitment on July 7. The one-time MSU commit will choose amongst a 'Top 5' which includes the Spartans, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Kansas and Oregon.
Following his decommitment from Michigan State, it appeared the Nittany Lions were the favorites to land Marsh's verbal pledge, particularly after his official visit to State College on June 9. However, MSU head coach Mel Tucker, Hawkins and others led a charge to make up ground during Marsh's OV to East Lansing on June 23, and it appears the Spartans may be back in the pole position in this recruitment. Pittsburgh is now viewed as the biggest threat, as they've put together a lucrative NIL package for Marsh as his decision date approaches.
Marsh is ranked No. 100 overall, the No. 27 wide receiver and the No. 3 player from the state of Michigan in the '24 cycle.
Moving on to other potential wide receiver candidates, Michigan State is in good standing with both four-star Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon's Kwazi Gilmer and three-star Shelby (N.C.) Crest's Javarius Green.
Gilmer has a 'Top 6' which consists of UCLA, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Washington, California and Stanford. He is ranked No. 205 overall, the No. 31 wide receiver and No. 18 player out of California. UCLA is currently trending and is considered the favorite in Gilmer's recruitment.
Green, meanwhile, is strongly considering MSU, North Carolina and Alabama as his July 18 commitment date approaches, with the Tar Heels as the perceived favorite. Green is considered the No. 767 overall prospect, No. 100 wide receiver and No. 24 player out of North Carolina in the 2024 class.
Finally, Michigan State also has strong ties to Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day wide receiver Bredell Richardson, who has the Spartans alongside LSU, Oregon and Michigan in his 'Final Four'. MSU has already landed a commitment from Richardson's high school teammate, four-star running back Anthony Carrie, and signed another former teammate during the 2023 recruiting cycle in cornerback Eddie Pleasant III.
Richardson has garnered a whopping 47 scholarship offers during his recruitment. He is ranked No. 283 overall, the No. 43 wide receiver and the No. 43 player out of Florida in his class.
Spartan Nation will continue to monitor Michigan State's 2024 wide receiver recruiting efforts in the weeks and months ahead.
