Two Michigan State WRs Returning For 2024 Season

The Spartans get two offensive weapons back for next season!

While Michigan State's football roster has undergone a lot of change since the end of the 2023 season, the Spartans are getting two offensive weapons back in 2024.

On Thursday, senior wide receiver Montorie Foster announced his return for a fifth year in East Lansing, and redshirt freshman wide receiver Jaron Glover withdrew from the NCAA transfer portal to stay at MSU.

This is a big development for Michigan State's wide receiver room, which had suffered considerable losses this offseason. Fifth-year senior Tre Mosley is out of eligibility, redshirt junior Christian Fitzpatrick transferred to Marshall and sophomore Tyrell Henry transferred to Wisconsin.

Last season, Foster led the Spartans in receptions (43), receiving yards (576) and was tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (3) in easily his best season at MSU. For his career, Foster has totaled 60 receptions for 816 yards and five touchdowns. He also has experience as a kick returner with 122 return yards on seven attempts (17.4 yards per return).

Glover, meanwhile, showed an impressive ability to separate from his defender in his first season as part of Michigan State's rotation at receiver. The redshirt freshman missed four games due to injury, but recorded 14 catches for 263 yards in eight games played. Despite the Spartans' offensive struggles in 2023, Glover emerged as a true deep threat, as his 18.6 yards per catch average was the best on the team.

Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith retained wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins as an assistant, which likely played a part in both Foster and Glover's return to MSU.

Michigan State Adds Defensive End From Transfer Portal

Michigan State bolstered its defensive line depth on Wednesday when former Middle Tennessee State defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan committed to the Spartans out of the transfer portal.

Dunnigan, a redshirt junior, has spent each of the past five seasons with the Blue Raiders and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at MSU. The 6-foot-4, 256-pounder has played in every game for Middle Tennessee State over the past two seasons, averaging 31 tackles, 16.5 tackles per loss and 2.75 sacks per season. In 2023, Dunnigan also had nine pass breakups.

Dunnigan appeared in one game as a true freshman at MSTU in 2019 before taking a redshirt year. He played in eight games in 2020 in a free season of eligibility due to the NCAA's COVID-19 policy that year. Dunnigan missed the entirety of the 2021 season due to injury and was granted a medical redshirt year by the NCAA.

3 MSU Transfers Commit To New Schools

Three Michigan State players who entered the transfer portal this offseason committed to new football programs on Wednesday.

Senior running back Jordon Simmons is headed to the Mid-American Conference to continue his career at Akron. In 34 career games as a Spartan, Simmons ran for 520 rushing yards on 137 carries. He added 56 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions. Simmons has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Meanwhile, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Kevin Wigenton will remain in the Big Ten after committing to Illinois. Wigenton appeared in 16 games over the last two seasons at MSU, earning six starts at guard for the Spartans. He'll have two season of eligibility remaining with the Fighting Illini.

Finally, redshirt senior tight end Evan Morris is headed to the Big 12 Conference after committing to Central Florida. Starting his MSU career as a walk-on kicker, Morris switched to tight end and played sparingly over the last two seasons. Used primarily as a blocker on running plays, Morris recorded four receptions for eight yards as a Spartan. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
