The Next 100 Hours Could Have a Big and Powerful Impact on the Future of Michigan State Football! Learn How Now!
While Mark Dantonio prepares to be the Grand Marshall of the MIS NASCAR race next weekend, he is hoping that this weekend gives the Spartan defense of the future a fast start. Over the next 100 hours, the face of Spartan defensive football may make a change, not in scheme but with an influx of amazingly talented young men who all sit on the precipice of their choices.
With the Spartans looking at handing out 25 scholarships in the next recruiting class of 2016, they already have 14 of those handed out and from Friday to Monday, they could add as many as four more highly sought after defensive studs.
Josh King from Darien, IL is an athletic DE with superior agility. At 6’6†and 245 pounds the young man brings an aggressive attack mentality to the game and with an unyielding motor. One scout summed up King to me this way, “He is very young, but every time I see him I keep thinking I am looking at Terrell Suggs (Baltimore Ravens OLB/DE) playing. Naquan Jones is a stud DT out of Evanston, IL who like King possesses tremendous athleticism and balance. He is always on the attack. The interesting part of Jones game is that as he has gotten bigger and taken up more space, his hand coordination has grown as well. He shows an uncanny ability to use brute force strength, while shedding offensive lineman in space with his hands. At 6’4†and 285 pounds Jones hasn’t even started his senior year of high school and is already a big time college football body. Although he does not carry the weight of Dan Wilkinson (former #1 overall NFL draft pick) I was told, “He has those physical attributes that you saw from Big Daddy (Wilkinson’s nickname) and that same ability to just find and make the play. Jones can pick his school to play for as virtually everyone wants him. If he picks the Spartans when he announces on Monday, I can assure you that in the Duffy Daugherty Football building there will be no Monday doldrums, as a commitment from this young man would create a new acronym of TGIM. Auston Robertson of Fort Wayne, IN is another DE that brings the bookend hammer to that critical edge of the Spartans defensive scheme should he pick the Spartans. Deceptively fast in short spaces he has an astonishing first step to get off the ball. When you watch him he explodes off the line of scrimmage and at the point of contact brings a car wreck. Just like King and Jones the offer list of schools vying for his talent goes across the nation for Indiana’s number one player in 2015. All you have to do is watch the film and I don’t’ care if you have never watched football, it’s clear instantaneously he is a difference maker on the edge. He is expected to announce on Sunday. Brandon Randle from Battle Creek, MI is the exact type of player Mark Dantonio has made a good living recruiting to MSU. He was a player that had very little BCS notice before Dantonio and the Spartans offered early. As has now become the custom around college football, when a young man gets a MSU offer the attention follows from other big time schools. At 6’2†and 217 pounds this young man brings high football IQ and a drive. He is a winner. An athletic freak he has the God given abilities similar to a BJ Cunningham. I am not saying he is BJ, they are different players at different positions, but they are the exact same size and when you watch him you see that athleticism. Here is one more caveat for Spartan Nation to chew on. The Spartans have more than just these four young men who have publicly stated when they could announce. At any time, other marquee players the Spartans have handed offers to could make their choice known. Dantonio doesn’t pressure recruits, but with only 25 spots, young men who have the Spartans high on their list are already counting the numbers game.
