East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State players Jake Chelios (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Will Yanakeff (Jerome, Mich.) were honorable mention selections to the 2010-11 CCHA All-Rookie Team, as announced by the conference office on Monday, March 7.  This marks the 23rd year that the conference has named an all-rookie team. Thirteen freshmen garnered at least one vote.

Determined by a vote of the conference’s head coaches, the team will be honored at the 2011 CCHA Awards on Thursday, March 17, at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

Chelios, who played on an organized team with older brother, Dean, since the first time since elementary school, was an honorable mention nod at defense. He played in 37 of 38 games, and put up an 8-6-14 scoring line. He had a two-goal outing against Northern Michigan on Feb. 12, and half of his goals came on the power-play. His four man-advantage goals ranked second on the team.Â

Yanakeff, who started to earn playing time in the Spartan net in early 2011, played in 14 games, making 12 starts. He owned a 2.11 goals against average and .927 save percentage, which included a 2.02 GAA in CCHA games (third in the league) and a .933 save percentage in conference contests, which was best among CCHA backstops. He finished the year with a 6-5-1 overall record with two shutouts.
