Michigan State LB Darius Snow Talks Recovery From Injury

Michigan State linebacker Darius Snow has been through a strenuous collegiate career so far regarding his body.

Michigan State linebacker Darius Snow has been dealt some bad hands throughout his college career so far, but he keeps coming back.

Before he could even try to follow up his impressive sophomore season in 2021, Snow suffered a season-ending leg injury in the Spartans' first game of the 2022 season.

He would be out for over a season, returning in Michigan State's third game of the 2023 season before missing the final six games due to injury yet again.

To be successful in 2024, Snow is first going to have to let go of the misfortune that has followed him, which of course, can be difficult when you have only played five games over the last two seasons.

"It's one of those things you gotta kind of just chop off," Snow told reporters after Michigan State's spring practice on Tuesday. "I mean, you don't just forget about it, but I mean, you understand it didn't go well for me, personally. I had a few setbacks, physically, that I had to bounce back from, but for me, I mean, at the end of the day, like my dad always says: 'Work is work.'

"And some work is just a different kind of work, so for me, last year was about getting back to being able to play. I didn't really manage to do that until December, really. So, now that I'm back able to play now, it's about just getting back to where I was and being even better."

During his road back to recovery the first time around, Snow never lost faith that he could get back to 100 percent.

"I'm a firm believer in everything that was meant to happen will happen," Snow said. "And I mean, if I don't, then that means it just wasn't in God's plan. But I'll say one thing, I wasn't going to let it be because I didn't do something."

Snow said the hardest part of recovery was not being able to move fast.

"I think the biggest thing with me, personally, is I had -- I operate fast, everything I do in life is fast," Snow said. "I even drive fast, within the speed limit, of course. But I mean, I've always been a pick up and move on person, and the people who know me and love me and my family, they kind of hate it because it's a lot like my dad. We don't really hold on to things, so we move on from things quickly.

"The problem with getting hurt is, I mean, it sticks with you physically; it's not something you can just move on from. So, I mean, I like to operate fast, but I can't when I can't even walk. So for me, the most difficult thing, the thing I struggle with the most, was kind of just suggesting having to live slowly. And then, not being able to work out was tough, too. There was a lot of stuff that went into it, but I mean, the biggest thing with me, at least that got me through and got me where I'm at right now is my faith and my family."

The Michigan State Spartan Football "Spring Showcase" will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
