Former Arizona Wildcat C Dylan Anderson Could Be Michigan State, Tom Izzo Transfer Portal Target

The Michigan State Spartans and Tom Izzo could target former two-time Gatorade Player of the Year Dylan Anderson this offseason.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo will have plenty of talent to look into this offseason as players enter the transfer portal. Last season, the Spartans had lackluster rebounding for an Izzo-led team, ranking 189th in offensive rebounds with 10.09 per game, 222th in defensive rebounds at 24.63 per game, and 210th in rebounds. The Spartans placed 158th in rebound margin, with a plus-one differential. To bolster the rebounding to the quality of past Michigan State squads, Izzo might look into big men in the portal.

One player certainly worth looking at is former Arizona Wildcat center Dylan Anderson. The 7-foot-tall transfer spent two seasons with the Wildcats. Last season, Anderson played in two exhibition games. The first was against Lewis-Clark State. In 19 minutes, Anderson tallied 12 points and four rebounds. In his second exhibition appearance, against New Mexico Highlands, Anderson had five points and five rebounds. Anderson did not appear in any regular season games last season as a redshirt.

In 2022, Anderson played in 15 regular season games for Arizona as a freshman. He played nearly 55 minutes on the season, notching 21 points and nine rebounds. Anderson shot seven of 17 from the floor and hit one of three from the 3-point line. He made his college debut against Nicholls, scoring a season-best six points with a rebound and a blocked shot in eight minutes on the court.

For Gilbert Perry High School, Anderson was named Arizona's Gatorade Player of the Year twice -- only the fifth player to do so. As a senior, Anderson led his high school to a 25-5 record and it's first state title, posting 13 points, 11 rebounds, almost two blocked shots per game, per Arizona athletics. Anderson was rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, with a grade of 91. He was the No. 7 player in his home state of Arizona, the No. 17 center nationally, and No. 95 player nationally.

When Anderson verbally committed to the Wildcats, he was head coach Tommy Lloyd's first commitment. Now, Tommy Lloyd is considered a potential candidate for the head coaching job at Kentucky. Anderson is not the only Wildcat to leave for the portal -- center Oumar Ballo declared, too.

Izzo and the Spartans should take a look at Anderson.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
